Aviemore Youth Hostel
About About this youth hostel
We welcome the recent announcement by the Scottish Government on the gradual and responsible easing of restrictions from 19 July. Unfortunately due to continued requirement for social distancing, we are unable to open our self-catering kitchens at this time. We hope to provide a date for the opening of these facilities following the next Scottish Government update. The health, safety and wellbeing of our guests, employees and the communities in which we operate remains our main priority at this time. For more information on what to expect when staying with us please visit the FAQ's section of this website.
As you’ll appreciate, advice on Covid-19 is constantly changing and we would ask all our guests to continue to refer to Scottish Government guidelines and Transport Scotland advice on travel and social distancing when making their booking.
Very popular with outdoor enthusiasts, the four star VisitScotland accredited Aviemore Youth Hostel is the perfect base for activity groups, families and individual travellers looking for great value accommodation and all year-round adventure.
The hostel offers guests a wide range of comfortable shared and private rooms, a bright and spacious lounge area with woodland and mountain views, TV and pool table. Guests can opt for a continental breakfast served in the dining room (please remember to pre-book) or take advantage of the large self-catering kitchen. Other facilities include free WiFi, an excellent drying room, laundry, private lockers, secure bike storage and ample onsite parking.
The hostel also hosts a Scottish Natural Heritage visitor centre, with Peregrine nestcam and helpful information about Craigellachie National Nature Reserve.
Surrounded by lush woodland, the hostel sits in the heart of the vast Cairngorms National Park but is just a short walk from Aviemore’s bustling town centre.
An all year round resort, local activities include hillwalking, climbing, snowsports, mountain biking, pony trekking, watersports and fishing. Most activities take place on the Rothiemurchus Estate, a fabulous area with many easy paths through the Caledonian Pine Forest. 19/07/21Fab stay at Aviemore Youth Hostel. I had been hiking in the Cairngorms for a few days, it was so nice to stay a night in a comfy bed!The hostel is in a super location, it is very clean and welcoming. The hostel has a drying room and the main event is the showers! Which are super strong and hot!
16/07/21Excellent location, clean, well maintained facilities with friendly, knowledgeable staff - highly recommended
10/07/21I stayed at the Aviemore hostel for 2 nights with my 2 kids in a private room with en-suite bathroom. The staff & accommodation were excellent and i would highly recommend.
04/07/21The staff really made our stay - extremely welcoming, helpful and really knowledgable about the local area. Staying in a hostel at the moment is definitely a bit different from normal but nothing you wouldn't expect. The little extra touches like free tea and coffee and designated showers made a big difference.
02/07/21We were warmly welcomed and pleased with our 2 bunk room, which meant both children could have a top bunk and no fighting! We watched the Euros in a comfortable lounge in good company with other guests, enjoyed the free hot drinks and purchased a couple of local beers. The next day we were able to enjoy a day out in the Creagallichie Nature reserve via an underpass under the A9 so no additional car parking to worry about it. There outdoor space for the kids to play and handy local takeaways.
30/06/21Great staff with very accommodating check in, clean rooms, and good common areas.
29/06/21Great value for money hostel in the centre of Aviemore.
23/06/21Really friendly and helpful service. Excellent facilities and very clean.
20/06/21Very friendly environment. Very helpful staff. Spotlessly clean. I'll be staying here again next time in Aviemore.
13/06/21Given the covid restrictions our experience was much better than anticipated. The availablity of hot water for drinks and making up porridge pots as well as packed lunches and breakfasts was really appreciated, especially given the need to book at many of the local eating establishments. The staff were very accommodating and informative.
07/06/21The hostel at Aviemore is a great spot to start an adventurous weekend. Close enough to the main street so you can get all of your supplies (7min walk), but “distanced” enough, so you are in a quieter area and can wake up to the sounds of nature! The shower is really good, particularly special after exploring the outdoors. The team is very friendly and supportive. Highly recommended! I'm already planing when I can go back!

31/05/21Easy to find, super location and place was spotless. Staff were friendly and provided clear directions Highly recommend and would stay again
30/05/21Lovely clean and spacious hostel with outside space to enjoy the good weather too. Tea and coffee facilities much appreciated.
17/03/20Great stay at this fantastic hostel.
15/03/20This is a great hostel, we've a stayed here several times before and keep coming back. Ask for a room at the back - quieter
08/03/20Great location, nice relaxed atmosphere and helpful staff. Impressed with cleanliness of the facilities. Packed lunches did the job but we felt that the breakfasts weren't great value for money. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would use the hostel again next time we're in the area.
06/03/20this hostel was a nice place to stay with a group. The staff is friendly and the bedrooms and bathrooms are clean. Especially the showers was amazing
05/03/20I love staying at the aviemore hostel. Tucked away in the trees with red squirrels playing just outside I find it peaceful and relaxing and my mood is lifted every time I come and stay. Hopefully it won't be long before I'm back for another stay??
23/02/20Great location for the Cairngorms and Rothiemercus. Spacious hostel with plenty of room for everyone even when busy. Close to town centre for shopping and eating out.
23/02/20Our 3 person room had plenty of space for us, and the en-suite bathroom was nice. It was great to have the option of eating out, eating meals provided by the hostel, or cooking our own food. The ability to use a washing machine was very handy too, when we got very muddy from off-road cycling.
19/02/20Such a cosy lounge - huge but also intimate and not intimidating even when full with other people. Very fluffy pillows and duvet which was a surprise since most hostels compromise on bed/comfort. A great atmosphere - the guests this place attracts are very warm and respectful.
18/02/20Really friendly, helpful staff. Great facilities, warm and comfortable.
17/02/20A very good hostel. I've stayed there several times. Good staff, facilities and location. Ideal for a group of people. Will be returning at some stage in the not too distant future.
08/02/20had a pleasant stay in a good setting
03/02/20fantastic as always. See you again soon.
02/02/20Everything was lovely - the lounge with the fireplace and pool table was so cozy and a great place to hang out, the drying room was excellent, the showers were great, and the rooms were really comfortable. Great place to stay and so close to everything in town!
24/01/20Excellent stay, clean and comfortable. Ideal when wanting to explore Aviemore
23/01/20Though I was initially skeptical about booking at the hostel due to not having ensuite bathrooms especially when travelling with a young child, the hostel changed all of that with very friendly staff and extremely clean individual toilets and shower right outside your room.
23/01/20Really nice Hostel. I only stayed the one night, but it had great facilities including a spacious kitchen and dining room as well as a fantastic living room with comfy sofas and a fire.
03/01/20Been hosteling in Scotland for over25 years and never stayed at Aviemore thinking it would be too busy so went to Cairngorms Lodge instead.......staying at Aviemore was a revelation, a lovely feel good hostel with lots of room and a cosy feel, great communal spaces with large kitchen and very spacious lounge, hot showers, always warm and spacious twin room, spotlessly clean and tidy, will definitely be back, well done Aviemore staff.
