Reasons to visit
Located on the east coast of Sutherland and part of the famous North Coast 500, Helmsdale is a great location for walking, fishing and cycling.
Helmsdale is a name synonymous with salmon fishing, but the town and its picturesque harbour originally prospered as the result of the herring boom in the 19th century.
Local attractions include the Timespan Heritage Centre which uses a combination of life size displays and audio visual exhibits to bring the town's heritage to life.
