We are delighted to be working with Hostelling International on a global peace building campaign, happening on September 21st.
Sleep for Peace will take place on this year’s UN International Day of Peace – the aim of the campaign is to celebrate the role that hostelling plays in bringing travellers from around the world together, and building friendships that last a lifetime.
Established in 2013 as a way to mark the United Nations International Day of Peace, Sleep for Peace is all about sparking conversations about travelling, building friendships across borders, and building tolerance.
Peace Postcards will be available at Stirling Youth Hostel and other Hostelling Scotland hostels, including Edinburgh Central and Pitlochry. Hostel guests are encouraged to write a short message on a postcard from Monday, 17th September – sharing their thoughts about how they think travelling influences people and changes the way they see the world.
Some members of the Hostelling Scotland team will be up at Stirling Youth Hostel on Friday, September 21st, spreading a message of peace and happiness and talking to you about where you have travelled this year, and about your travel plans for 2019.
At the end of September, we will collect all completed postcards and send them directly to the United Nations.
We’d love it if you could join us at Stirling Youth Hostel on Friday, September 21st from 10am, take part in our activities and let us know about your travel plans! If you’re not able to make it then you can join the conversation on Twitter via #SleepforPeace – we’ll be tweeting throughout the day and in the run up to the event!
