Rowardennan Lodge Youth Hostel
About About this youth hostel
We welcome the recent announcement by the Scottish Government on the gradual and responsible easing of restrictions from 19 July. Unfortunately due to continued requirement for social distancing, we are unable to open our self-catering kitchens at this time. We hope to provide a date for the opening of these facilities following the next Scottish Government update. The health, safety and wellbeing of our guests, employees and the communities in which we operate remains our main priority at this time. For more information on what to expect when staying with us please visit the FAQ's section of this website.
As you’ll appreciate, advice on Covid-19 is constantly changing and we would ask all our guests to continue to refer to Scottish Government guidelines and Transport Scotland advice on travel and social distancing when making their booking.
Rowardennan Lodge Youth Hostel sits in an idyllic location on the banks of Loch Lomond with its own jetty and panoramic views across the loch.
The lodge offers a wide range of private rooms and comfortable shared accommodation with separate washroom facilities.
Guests can opt for a continental breakfast, lunch or evening meal served in the dining room, or choose to prepare their own in the large, well-equipped self-catering kitchen. Please remember to pre-book your meals.
Relax with a local craft beer or glass of wine in the hostel’s large and cosy lounge, while soaking up the spectacular view across the loch. Other facilities include a laundry and drying room. 26/07/21A great place to stay. Stunning view from the generously sized private room.
26/07/21Beautiful old house in the middle of nowhere...What a delight to open the window and see the Lock and the hills! The green in front of the house was ideal to lay on the grass and the meals were tasty.
25/07/21Lovely location. All staff were excellent and friendly. The food was decent too and I'd definitely recommend this hostel as a stop on the West Highland Way.
22/07/21We had the best stay. Everyone went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. Food was excellent. Setting was magic
15/07/21Arrived late after a solo walk from Drymen. Check in staff were lovely and accommodating. Clean room and washroom. Beautiful setting, I looked out of my room window to see a deer.Would definitely come back.
12/07/21A lovely Hostel in a beautiful location. Everything was clean and tidy and the staff were very helpful and pleasant. The 3 course evening meal was superb!
12/07/21Stunning location. We had a double room for a couple with an amazing view of the Loch. We had a shared bathroom which I believe was quite new and the shower was good, plenty of hot water, last year we were here and allocated an older shower which was a bit touch and go. We paid £13 for a 3 course meal which was really good.
11/07/21The hostel was perfect, the building is really lovely and we enjoyed our 2-night stay. There is a beach just in front of the hostel. Just be aware of midges which are everywhere. The dinner was delicious! Definitely recommend eating there.
27/06/21This is a stunning location and building to stay in, the refurbished lounge is like something out of a high class hotel and the views are amazing. My room was modern and perfect. Food very tasty and a really good drinks selection at reception. Will be returning and already recommending.
24/06/21Enjoyable stay when walking west highland way. Food was really good, would definitely recommend.

22/06/21Lovely location. Great facilities and very helpful staff. Great stop off fro WHW. Very good 3 course dinner in the evening.
21/06/21Perfect location between Ben and Loch lomond, the views are amazing. The evening meals were excellent as was the choice of drinks and snacks.
14/06/21Simply ticks all the boxes for a reasonable price.
05/06/21When we visited they had only just opened post lockdown. However, this wasn't obvious from the level of service we received! The staff were lovely and helpful, even able to squeeze us in for dinner last minute and made us feel very welcome. Showers and room were nice and clean, and the view from the building is phenomenal across Loch Lomond. Would stay again when walking the West Highland Way!
01/10/20A lovely location
30/09/20Excellent! Aaron is the perfect host. What a place to work! Location is idyllic. Really comfortable stay. Nice rooms and clean modern facilities. Gorgeous views out across Loch Lomond. Hot food and drinks available, after a hard day on the trail this was a welcome surprise. Only knocked a couple of stars off because the COVID restrictions kills the experience a bit, the wifi signal is poor and there's no bike wash or bike store! Essential outdoor requirements nowadays. :D
29/09/20Rowardennan Lodge is excellent. The character property enjoys superb views over Loch Lomond, has a good range of well maintained facilities, the bunk rooms were spacious and warm. All accessible communal areas were well maintained. Best practices around Covid were being followed which meant the large communal meeting room was not available. The warden was excellent and made sure our brief stay was without incident. I would be very happy to recommend the accommodation.
28/09/20Fantastic building and grounds. Did not expect it to be loch facing so that was pleasant surprise! Service was perfect and felt that the COVID situation was being taken seriously and managed very well
22/09/20That was my second stay in this hostel and I wold like to come back. Situated at the banks of Loch Lomond, it is a wonderful place to relax. Thanks again for kepping our delayed backpacks.
17/09/20great staff, very clean and comfortable. Frozen dinner options due to covid were amazing! Thank you
16/09/20Absolutely perfect for our overnight stop walking the West Highland Way. Very well organised regarding COVID restrictions, we felt perfectly safe. Our room and private facilities were immaculate. Would not hesitate to recommend or stay again.
10/09/20It was a wonderful stay - perfect location to do the full ptarmigan round path up Ben Lomond, and then swim in the loch afterwards. Warden was really welcoming, kept the hostel really clean - and made a fabulous bacon buttie for breakfast - nothing was too much trouble. A great advert for getting back to hostelling!
03/09/20A very comfortable stay in a beautiful location, due to current procedures the atmosphere was missing but I'm sure it will return.
31/08/20An amazing place to stay & ideal if you want to climb Ben Lomond. Beautiful location. Also extremely clean and well organised to cope with the current Covid 19 pandemic. Seperate rooms, own bathroom and own cooking station with crockery and microwave. It felt like a very safe place to stay. Only sad that we didn't have the usual friendly experience of meeting other guests and swapping stories. I hope that YHA will be able to weather the Covid storm as Youth Hostels are unique places.
24/08/20My partner and I stayed in the Rowardennan Youth Hostel for a night in August. The staff were very helpful and the overall experience was great. There were fantastic measures in place to ensure a safe stay: we had a separate room and a designated bathroom, shower, and kitchen equipment to keep social distancing. The hostel itself is in a lovely location, next to West Highland Way and 3 minutes away from the parking lot, where the main path up Ben Lomond starts. Highly recommended.
24/08/20Beautiful hostel in incredible location. Loch views from our room. Covid cleaning every day, toilets and showers reserved for individual room use. Kettle/microwave station for each room. Felt really safe. Thanks for a great stay.
Happy to share
22/08/20A great experience to have use of the hostel when it was so empty. Just a shame to not be able to use kitchen facilities but social distancing protocol was very effective.
19/08/20Highly recommended, a great location for the munro's, the staff were great and also a very safe place in the times we live in!! Hope to more munro's and stop here in the future.
09/08/20Absolutely fabulous. Fantastic location. Lovely Staff. Lots of thought put in with regard to virus protection (despite other guests attempting to use our dedicated shower room).
09/08/20the hostel was clean staff pleasant and relaxing spot would definitely stay again
