This was my third consecutive visit to the Minnigaff Hostel. It has a unique atmosphere and is popular with myself and my fellow Red Triangle members who have all been there many times before. I would not hesitate to use the use this hostel again. The bunk beds were comfortable, the bed linen was satisfactory and the kitchen facilities were adequate.George Mc

">Reasons to visit
The area is very popular with outdoor enthusiasts and local activities include mountain biking, cycling, fishing, pony trekking, wildlife watching and hill walking within the Galloway Forest Park and along the coast. The Park is the UK’s first dark sky park offering spectacular stellar viewing on a clear night.
The 7stanes are seven mountain biking centres spanning the south of Scotland, from the heart of the Scottish Borders to Dumfries and Galloway. They are known as the 7stanes because each venue features a 'stane', created by artist Gordon Young, somewhere along the forest trails. Two of these routes, Glentrool and Kirroughtree, are within easy reach of Newton Stewart Youth Hostel and offer routes for both novice and experienced riders.
For those looking for something a little bit more relaxing, the Crafty Distillery offers tours of its craft gin distillery. The tours take around two hours and have become hugely popular, taking you through the distilling process followed by a cocktail making session.
