Hostelling Scotland Explorer Fund

Supported by membership contributions, the Explorer Fund is designed to give disadvantaged young people in Scotland a valuable break away from home and the opportunity to discover new areas of Scotland.   Youth groups, schools and colleges can apply to receive a funded residential trip to a Hostelling Scotland Youth Hostel of their choice, including accommodation and catering.

We have now re-opened the Explorer Fund for a further round of applications in 2019.

For more information and how to apply, download the application form and guidance notes below. Please email completed applications to yvemanager@hostellingscotland.org.uk

The deadline for applications is Friday 27th September 2019.  Trips can take place anytime up until 30th June 2020.

Hostelling Scotland supports the campaign for more Brilliant Residentials for more children. We know Brilliant Residentials improve the outcomes for children and young people and we want to ensure every child has access to and benefits from these amazing experiences. We ask groups applying to take into account 4 of the key criteria for a brilliant residential when they are designing their trip.

In 2018 we funded youth and school groups from across Scotland including Castlemilk Youth Group, St Andrews Primary School, Be View Resource Centre, Grangemouth High School, YOMO, The Mungo Foundation, Kingussie High School, PEEK and Moray Primary School. The groups travelled to a range of youth hostels including Rowardennan, Pitlochry, Cairngorm Lodge, Lochranza, Stirling, Oban and Edinburgh Central. In 2018 one of the groups we funded was Royston Youth Action who were able to go on a trip to Cairngorm Lodge Youth Hostel. Watch a short video of their trip here:
