With youth hostels in key locations across Scotland, we offer great value, flexible accommodation, expert local knowledge and a warm welcome for anyone wishing to explore and discover the real Scotland. From cities to islands, beaches to hills and mountains and all points in between. With a great mix of private rooms and shared accommodation, we’re the perfect choice for groups, families and individual travellers.
A range of other facilities such as a laundry and drying rooms, internet access and small shops are also available – these facilities vary by site and details can be found on the facilities section for each youth hostel.
Breakfast is available at most locations and some of our hostels have cafes offering lunches, snacks and evening meals. A number of our youth hostels are licensed allowing you to relax with a beer or a glass of wine at the end of a busy day. Find out more about Food & Drink in the hostelling network.
All our youth hostels are quality-assured and graded by VisitScotland and, as enthusiastic supporters of sustainable tourism, we’re proud to say that 91% of our hostels are now rated silver and above in the Green Tourism Business Scheme. Over 70% of Hostelling Scotland's customer-facing staff have now completed WorldHost training, showing our commitment to customer service excellence.
More than just a bed for the night
A not for profit charity with people and communities at our heart, our charitable programmes give young people and families, who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity, the chance to experience Scotland and develop their skills for life, learning and work.
Youth hostel opening dates and reception times outwith the main holiday season can vary - for example weekend opening only.
Please check our website or call or email the relevant youth hostel directly.
As a guide, the reception desks of small rural hostels are normally open between 7.30-10.00 and 17.00-22.30 and are generally closed during the day.
Our city hostels are normally open 24 hours.
