Award Winning Beaches

Feel the golden sands under your feet, taste the salt in the wind and hear the roar of the surf and the calls of the seabirds above. When your senses are this alive, there is nowhere quite as wonderful as the beach and we have a few that are definitely worth a visit.

With golden sands and shimmering turquoise waters, Scotland’s beaches can often be mistaken for the Caribbean and two of the best for 2022 are:

Big Sand:

Regional winner in the Sunday Times Awards for the Best Scottish Beaches 2022, Big Sands can be found four miles west of Gairloch. This sheltered, south-facing beach offers extensive golden sands and dramatic views over Skye and the Torridon Mountains and is a popular choice for swimmers, kayakers and paddleboarders on calmer days and kitesurfers, surfers and bodyboarders on windier days.

Vestey’s:

One of the Sunday Times Top 10 Scottish Beaches 2022, Vestey’s, sits on the community-owned lands of the Assynt Foundation. Its stunning white sands slip gently into a sea that shifts from an impossible turquoise to the deep green of a backlit whisky bottle. To find Vestey’s, head to our Achmelvich Beach Youth Hostel, an hour north of Ullapool and sitting on one of the UK’s best beaches itself.
